The Arts, Literature and Communication program is intended for students willing to experiment with artistic production while gaining a more in-depth general culture in order to better understand and appreciate artistic and literary works. Honours can be the culmination of your formal education, an experience that extends your intellectual range, hones your research abilities, as well as analytical and communication techniques, and helps you to develop the personal and professional skills needed to see a research project though to completion.

An international conference on sports, arts and business kicks off in Japan on Wednesday as part of the government’s efforts to create momentum leading up to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and beyond. Schools facing budget shortfalls immediately take an axe to funding for the arts because doing the same to sports programs would be sacrilege (unless, of course, you’re talking about women’s sports programs). Sports Art, which was positioned as a public competition until, was re-created as a cultural program in 2008. MEGA Sports and Arts Camp is a zero-sum event that is budgeted to be self-sustaining. The arts can survive and even thrive in spite of narrow-minded legislators and budget cuts. Membership is free and each ActiveSG member receives 100 ActiveSG dollars , which they can use to sign up for sports programmes and utilise facilities at various ActiveSG sports centres islandwide.

You see, I do feel that this arts/health thing we’re all part of, is by its very nature, a grass roots movement, not something that you can impose standardisation on, and yet it seems the free-marketeers are gaining ground and soon everything we do will only be sanctioned if it meets the standards of the politburo – standards dictated by those pale-faced marketeers – and never – absolutely never – those artists, free-thinkers and activists that make up the movement.
