Returning to Scottsdale by popular demand, 7 Fingers will present one of its latest tantalizing creations, Cuisine & Confessions. Priority will be given to centres that: are working with young people for whom access and inclusion is an issue and who will use the grant to support them to pilot, embed or develop their Arts Award work with these groups.

Based in Montreal, Canada, The 7 Fingers of the Hand (Les 7 doigts de la main) was founded in 2002 with a mission to bring circus to a human scale, placing the extraordinary element of circus in ordinary contexts. The 7 case studies from Bangladesh, India and Pakistan are key organisations that are representative of the diverse cultural and socio-political context within which they operate. Throughout history there have been hundreds of famous artists, so it is no wonder that today it remains one of the most popular and appreciated fine arts. Ward 7 Arts Collaborative worked very closely with the library and DCCAH for over four years to conceive and complete this idea. The liberal arts can be traced to Plato, who thoroughly prescribed them in perhaps his most famous work, The Republic. The importance of a liberal arts education was known from before the time of Christ until the turn of the 20th century. Composed by Dan Studney and Kevin Murphy (Heathers), this production is directed by Stephen Wheat who has worked with the major works of comedy like Avenue Q & Pippin. At this point, we have only done preliminary design work, but in addition to printing it on Lankes’s own Washington hand press, we know that we will use a fine mouldmade or handmade all-cotton paper. There’s evidence of the positive long-term benefits of participating in the arts in all their forms from longitudinal studies from both mainstream cultural organisations, and from the wealth of focused arts and health projects. We saw this first-hand recently at the Tampa Book Arts Studio when pages from books printed in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries on the other side of the world—mostly in Latin—began to speak to a twenty-first century seminar. So, in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the great American type designer this year, we plan to print the book using a hand-set special casting of the original Village type, the face that Goudy designed for his own Village Press.
