To encourage the study of the arts by students, Pre-Kindergarten to grade 12, to help them develop arts literacy and lifelong skills that enhance their innate creativity and ability to make critical evaluations, as well as provide tools for better communication. PASA, PSBA, PAIU, PARSS, the PA Principals Association and PASBO are traveling around the state to conduct regional workshops for school leaders to provide them with more information on the new basic education funding formula. Numerous reports discuss the ways that increased access and involvement in arts education encourage students to stay in school, succeed in school, succeed in life, and succeed in work. High schools with more arts education saw higher rates of students planning to enroll in a four-year college. People have been so wrapped up in showing how arts education benefits students, many haven’t stopped to consider how it also impacts educators.
A passion for issues of equity and social justice is a hallmark of HGSE and is shared by students in AIE, where we explore the particular ways in which the arts can help help address these issues. NAER and NCLC partnered to bring Arts & Wellness Day to 400 Newark high school students, through empowering arts and leadership workshops. The core AIE faculty consists of individuals with deep experience in both the research and practice of arts-based education. The Arts Education Partnership was established in 1995 and is supported by the U.S. Department of Education and the National Endowment for the Arts in cooperation with the Education Commission of the States. Everyone is committed to the school and wants to get the most out of every minute of the day.
