Arts education also shapes our consumption of arts activities as adults – communities that invest in quality arts in education often feel the ripple effect of participation in their community-based arts programs and cultural institutions. Educational Sloyd placed an emphasis on the development of skill, so models were arranged in exacting sequence to help shape the student’s growing abilities to shape conventional household items from wood. Congratulations to freshman Miles Teague (French Horn), who has been named a member of the Illinois High School Theatre Festival’s All-State company of Sweeney Todd. Student assessments are inconsistent and at the elementary school level, the per-pupil arts expenditure is only two cents a day.
