Through advancing excellence in research, teaching and learning, the Wits School of Arts combines critical inquiry with artistic practice in ways that engage in transformative ways with our contemporary urban, African and global contexts. On Tuesday, October 11, we held a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house with building tours to view the newly modernized main building at Valhalla High School. Just a reminder that the research project took place in Newcastle, North Wales and Derbyshire and it will be exciting to share new research and thinking around the impact of the visual arts on the lived experiences of people with dementia. Students who have taken voice and music teachings at the Brooklyn schoolhouse with special facilities for fine arts had superb experiences with them and has identified it as the most magnificent area set aside for a musical drive. Alumni living in or attending school in the Boston area recently gathered at the Union Oyster House-the city’s oldest restaurant-to share memories with retired Master teacher Tom McLellan h’12 and Assistant Director of Development John Dearie ’95. The Wits School of Arts building can be accessed from the Station Street entrance to the main Wits campus. Founded as a social enterprise, the City & Guilds of London Art School is proud of its heritage, high standards, expertise and student-centred approach. The company of the Illinois Theatre Association’s Sweeney Todd” production consists of 108 high school students from across the state. It was also the same school that taught me that I need not follow the norms and just pick one profession.
