MONA LISA Arts & Media was established in 2009 in response to an identified need in the local community of Burnham and surrounding areas. The Communication and Media Arts BA is ideal for students who want to immerse themselves in the multi-dimensional landscape of traditional and emerging media, and who wish to explore communication in all of its facets in conjunction with special interests.
Past and current students have gone on internships at various Dutch and foreign institutions: media archives such as the Institute for Sound & Image (including the Dutch radio and television archives) and Eye Filminstituut Nederland (formerly the Film Museum), De Balie cultural centre, the Dutch Research Council, Vice, het Nieuwe Instituut, galleries and national newspapers.
From Audio recording and reproduction like records, tapes, cassettes, cartridges, CDs, to Broadcasting Media such as Radio, Television, Cable, to Film or Motion Pictures whether in Cinema or in DVDs, and the Digital Media, the Internet, Mobile Phones, Satellite, and ultimately the Publishing or Print Media which includes Books, Newspapers, Magazines and the run-of-the-mill marvelous Video games.
As the technologies used to deliver works of new media art such as film , tapes , web browsers , software and operating systems become obsolete, New Media art faces serious issues around the challenge to preserve artwork beyond the time of its contemporary production.
In Mass Communication, students may choose to specialize in print journalism , electronic media , or public relations The curriculum is built on classes that provide a thorough grounding in the basics of each specialty at the freshman and sophomore levels plus challenging upper-level courses reflecting the current professional job market.
