I also think (and I think this for sports as well as music) that by HIGH SCHOOL many less academically oriented kids might tune out if they didn’t have a loved activity to pull them back in. There’s some good neuroscience research that children involved in music have larger growth of neural activity than people not in music training. Therefore I believe music participation should start at young age and be continued through high school. I have over 30 years teaching experience in the Visual Arts, Music and Early Childhood.
