A degree in fine and studio arts teaches students how to express themselves through various creative outlets. The NPDA is the only organization of its kind, and its membership represents the highest standard of visual arts education available in the United States and Canada. The medium of collage places more emphasis on the concept and techniques used to create works rather than the end result itself.
Via the assemblage of different objects and images, collage interrogates the fundamental concept of what it is to create art, whilst offering a prismatic reflection of the social change and upheaval of the twentieth century. The fine arts program exposes students to a variety of techniques and practices to help students further understand composition and expression. The risk with collage is that it can seem slapdash or myopic, its meaning opaque to anyone but the artist. On Wednesday I was invited to accompany my granddaughter’s Girl Scout troop to visit an art exhibit by Professor Hal Shunk at Wilmington (OH) College. Some graduates of this program choose to enter the professional world immediately, earning an average starting salary of $41,000, while others pursue an advanced degree from NYU’s Institute of Fine Arts.
