Montclair, NJ September 2013 – Atlantic Health System and Montclair State University have announced a partnership to promote healing arts in health care and education through research. AHNC is a registered charity and virtual organization, functioning as a networking, capacity building and knowledge-sharing hub for anyone interested in the intersections between arts and health in Canada. The project will be supervised by academics from the Textile Research Group at The School of the Arts.
Eligible organisations are able to apply for grants of between £150,000 and £750,000 over a three-year period. When doing arts in health work with communities, some projects may also focus on the concept of social capital where ‘unity is health’. Within the Arts Council, arts and health is the responsibility of the Arts Participation team. Other alternative healing arts careers like chiropractic can also prove to be very lucrative.

These findings suggest that older women who are becoming frail demonstrate perceived health status benefits, most notably in ambulation, after taking part in intensive tai chi exercises. The Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts is hosting a Granting 101: The Basics workshop in partnership with the Toronto Arts Council and the Ontario Arts Council on October 24. Themes ranged from identity and immunity to psychiatry and alienation, and from global health to medicine in archaeology, and the role of women in health (see winners’ biographies and judges’ comments below).
Arts for Health have a group member led group ‘Smartarts,’ which you would be able to join on a longer term basis. On Tuesday 11th October between 16:00 and 18:00 I’ll be facilitating a small event to explore Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and the Arts at the Manchester School of Art. You will find informative case studies produced by a wide range of arts and health practitioners and a resources area designed to help you with your projects.

The conference was an opportunity to bring together the arts and health care community through a multidisciplinary look at how the arts play a role in healing. Catherine Morley engages in research to raise awareness about the causes, prevention and management of malnutrition in aging Canadians and those living with dementia or changed health status. We provide arts opportunities and arts therapy for young people experiencing mental health problems or disadvantage.
