Art History, which is devoted to the study of all the visual arts, is one of the broadest fields in the humanities. This article looks at two episodes in North Carolina history: (1) the overthrow and destruction of the Republican white-black political coalition in the years between 1876 and 1900 and the techniques for overthrow used in those years; and (2) the attack on the Democratic multi-racial coalition in North Carolina’s 2010 election and 2011 redistricting.
